When I was younger, I used to watch a cartoon called He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (ok, you caught me, I still watch the remake). Prince Adam was He-Man, but it was a well-guarded secret. But when Adam wanted to turn to He-Man to defeat the bad guy, he would raise his sword and say, “By the power of Castle Grayskull, I have the power!” After transforming, He-Man would easily take care of the evil doers.
This week I was confronted with an issue from the past. In the midst of it, the words of Adam came to me “I have the power.” But do I? Do I have the power to overcome my past? I will tell you the power is not in Castle Grayskull, but it is in the Word of God.
David, King of Israel says, “When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away…I acknowledged my sin to you, and my iniquity did not hide, I said ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord and You forgave the guilt of my sin” (Psalm 32:3,5).
Yes, we do have power to defeat the evil in our lives, each of us does. The power is ours when we are honest about our faults, failures and issues and take them to God. Too many of us are in bondage to our past failures, because we have not brought them before God. You and I do not have to live as prisoners! We are victorious through the blood of Jesus. But our victory cannot be realized by ducking, dodging or hiding from our stuff. So the next time the evil one shows up with your past in tow, remind yourself “By the power of Calvary, I have the power!”
